This is going to the information technology distribution

On the off-chance that you know someone in Moscow, have the person
e-mail their resume to me (jay.colan@LHH.com)

locals and thus might not pay relocation costs or cover any local living
expenses. I will forward it to the party who is collecting resumes.
I know nothing other than what is stated below.

They are looking for 4-5 BAs
who would be located in Moscow
for almost a year. They need to be fluent in Russian and the start date is
ASAP. These candidates are going to be working fully from Moscow.

Skills required:

1. Experience working as BA at least
2 years

2. Good knowledge of Russian
Financial market (mainly MICEX securities).

3. Deep understanding of Back office
and Compliance requirements, based on a previous experience.

Article: How Recruiters Read Resumes In 10 Seconds or Less (impacthi

Posted by: "Eric Nilsson" ericnilsson@earthlink.net   eric_s_nilsson

How Recruiters Read Resumes In 10 Seconds or Less

The 10 or 20 seconds it takes to read a resume seems to always generate a
lot of controversy. Candidates comment on how disrespectful it is, how one
can't possibly read a resume in that time and some get angry at recruiters
when we talk about this. I hope this article will help everyone understand
how we do this. I realize that some still may not like it and will still be
angry, but at least you can understand how it works.

First, let me say I've been a recruiter for 30 years. I'm sure I have
reviewed over 500,000 resumes. I can't prove this but I'm reasonably
confident that this is the case, as this is only an average of about 46 a
day. I know many days I have reviewed hundreds of resumes and most in less
than 20 seconds. I would say the average is probably around 5 to 7 seconds.

So for the record when you hear or read about, "reading a resume in 20
seconds," that isn't completely true. It is more than likely, "reviewed the
resume in 20 seconds."

Here is my process for getting through 100's of resumes in a short period of
time. Others may have different ways and I welcome your comments.

I set up a hierarchy of certain "must haves" or you're out, so at first I'm
really just box checking. Generally, 80% of the time these are my knock out
blows. There are exceptions to each of these, but I'm dealing with the 80/20
rule. These are not cumulative times. This is box checking, if I see any
one of these as I scan your resume you will be excluded.

1. Location. If the client is in Los Angeles, CA and you aren't - goodbye.
Few if any clients want to relocate anyone in this economy, and I believe
most shouldn't have to. Especially in a huge metropolitan area like Los
Angeles. If they do have to consider relocation the position has to require
some very unique experience that few jobs do. I can do this in about 1
second.

2. Industry. If my client is in banking and your background is primarily
manufacturing - goodbye. These two often are so different that the client
isn't open to considering such different industries. This works both ways,
if you have a manufacturing background I'm not going to consider someone
with banking. 2-3 seconds to determine this.

3. Function. If I'm doing a sales search and your background isn't sales -
goodbye. Generally companies are paying recruiters to find them a perfect
fit. We never do find a perfect fit, but we have to be very close. They
don't need a recruiter to find them someone in a completely different
function. 2 seconds to figure this one out.

4. Level. If I'm doing a VP level search and your title is "manager" and you
have never been a VP - goodbye. There are exceptions to this, but again it
is the 80/20 rule. Again, clients pay me to find them the perfect fit. It is
generally way too big of a jump from manager level to VP level, all other
things being equal. It works the other way too. If I'm looking for a
manager and you are a VP - goodbye. I know you are qualified to do a manager
level role, but it is clear you have grown past. Most clients and recruiters
aren't willing to take the chance that when a VP level position comes along
that you won't be gone. Less than 5 seconds to figure out.

5. Recent Experience. There is some overlap on this one. If I'm searching
for someone with international sales experience in the aerospace industry
and the last time you held an international sales position in this industry
was 20 years ago and since then you have been in retail - goodbye. I can
find people with more relevant experience and that is what my client expects
me to do. 5 seconds to do this.

6. Education Like it or not, I will only work with people that have a
college education and most of the time a master's degree. This is mainly
because, as I indicated before, I need to find the very best for my clients.
I realize an education doesn't mean by itself that the candidate is the
best, but it is one qualifier of many. Also all of my clients require at
least a BA.

7. Turnover. If you have had 6 jobs in the last 4 years, or have a track
record of high turnover - goodbye. I realize there are good reasons for
turnover and that falls into the 20% of the 80/20 rule. I can't define high
turnover, but I know it when I see it. 3 - 5 seconds.

8. Functional resume. I don't read them. It is obvious when one has a
functional resume they are trying to hide something and I'm rarely going to
take the time to attempt to figure it out. 1 second.

9. Obvious things such as, spelling errors, poor format, errors in grammar,
too long, verbose and rambling. If after reading it I still can't figure out
what you do, goodbye. 5 - 10 seconds

After all this, 80 - 100% have been eliminated. If there are any left, then
I will take the time to actually read them in detail.

Answers to LinkedIn Outlook Toolbar question

[Attachment(s) from Doug Herman included below]

There seems to be a consensus that the LinkedIn plug-in for Outlook is useful but problematic.

Sent: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 9:27 PM
I've found many issues with it and Outlook 2007, causing many 'WER' reports on exit. It also is not yet ported to Outlook 2010 (ok,
being an optimist?). I still have it installed, more for the grab feature, and a chance to do some 'contact' updates.

Sent: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 9:21 AM
I've been using it for several months to integrate my Outlook contacts with my LinkedIn contacts. It's worked well for me. By
having the LinkedIn contacts in Outlook, it makes it easy to create mail distribution lists targeting your LinkedIn contacts. It
also has the nice feature of reminding you when it's time to touch base again.

Sent: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 8:43 AM
LinkedIn has just released their latest version 2.7.3 that I've been using for a few weeks. It fixed some of the other issues of
earlier releases and seems to be stable.

Sent: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 6:19 AM
Doug, I installed it and then uninstalled it yesterday. I found that I could not click on any job leads from Indeed, my internet
service was impaired and that I couldn't seem to retain or even get to gmail. My productivity was quite impaired. More tech savvy
users probably could have navigated these issues but I chose to uninstall.

Sent: Tuesday, February 16, 2010 10:34 PM
Suggest that you get on a LinkedIn and an Outlook website and see what experiences folks have had with it. You're wise to be
cautious. I'm not up to date on the relationship between Microsoft and LinkedIn.

Sent: Tuesday, February 16, 2010 8:48 PM
Love the LinkedIn toolbar, the grab feature is fantastic for adding people to your contacts list.

Sent: Tuesday, February 16, 2010 8:15 PM
To: 'Doug Herman'
Go for it - it's easy to use and I've not seen any issues.

Sent: Tuesday, February 16, 2010 7:43 PM
I've used it an love it....the grab function to capture contact info is real helpful....I have had a couple issues with the add-on
and Outlook, but it's worth the occasional hassle.....

Sent: Tuesday, February 16, 2010 6:18 PM
Doug and others. I had good luck with an earlier version of their tool bar. Somewhere along something broke and I've never been able
to get it to work at all. Suspect a conflict with another Outlook add-in or the gradual deterioration of Office. It's been like this
on two diff machines even after a few "complete rebuilds." When it worked it was very useful to me. Outlook 2010 (beta) has some
nice social networking hooks and I hope it will play nicer with a forthcoming version of the LI tool bar.

Sent: Tuesday, February 16, 2010 5:58 PM
All I know is that one day, after loading this, everyone in my address book mysteriously received a request from me to join my
network. Be careful.

I use it and find it useful, but it often crashes (not outlook, just the tool bar) and you have to re-install. I recommend it,
despite those issues.

I have used the LinkedIn Outlook toolbar and it worked OK. It's great for cross-checking your Outlook contacts with LinkedIn's. It
even checks for updates for email addresses and the like. It will also put an icon in an email message so you can click to see the
correspondent's LinkedIn profile. The easiest way to find out if it works is to try it. You can always uninstall it. Outlook 2010
looks like it will include some of the same functionality without extra plugins. Maybe. Another application that will find Facebook,
LinkedIn and other profile info for your correspondents in Outlook is Xobni. It works well and also organizes your email into
conversations. It won't cross-check your contacts list with LinkedIn like the LinkedIn toolbar will. See xobni.com. There's a free
version and a paid version. I had other problems with Outlook and now I'm trying online email services like Zoho Mail and Gmail. I
like them, but I occasionally miss the LinkedIn social tools.

Yes. I have used the LinkedIn Outlook Toolbar and it worked wonderfully for a while, and then I started to have problems with my
Outlook email and got rid of it. If you look in the LinkedIn Q&A section you will see that it has created problems for other users.
LinkedIn has not maintained it and I think some Microsoft security updates may have broken it. In general, I think LinkedIn is
having trouble maintaining their systems with the huge increase in users.

I miss it, because it had this great feature of being able to highlight text in an email and create address book entries
automatically. Does anyone have a different tool which does that?

P.S. Unrelated to this, I also removed the Google Tool bar because it seemed to hog up my bandwidth and slow everything down.

Sent: Tuesday, February 16, 2010 3:27 PM
Yes I use it. When I originally downloaded it around a year ago I had some problems - not serious. I have several tools bars on
outlook some it may operate a little slower than without. I have not had any problems lately. I do not use it too often now - I
typically operate via LinkedIn directly. It still has value for me when I use it. If you decide to use - I would recommend backing
before you download it and again before you use it the first time - as with anything - something can always go wrong.

You Just Have to Do It

By ALEXANDRA LEVIT

People in the midst of a career reinvention don't have the luxury of a
manager who sets priorities for them. The most difficult part of making a
career change is starting it, especially with only your desire to propel
you.

As an independent filmmaker, Adrian Belic, 40 years old, is accustomed to
making things happen. The first film he made with his brother, "Genghis
Blues," won a Sundance award and received an Academy Award nomination. But
despite this success, he found it difficult to get a second project off the
ground.

Without funding or a major movie studio behind him, Mr. Belic returned to
his "scrappy, independent roots." After speaking with three former soldiers
who were delivering humanitarian aid to war zones around the world, Mr.
Belic put plans in place to make a movie about them, called "Beyond the
Call."

"I knew this was a great story and that I could tell it in a powerful and
entertaining way," he says. Inspired, he started the project without
backing.

Practice Getting Going

David Allen, the author of "Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free
Productivity," says an attitude like Mr. Belic's is the right one. But many
people, prospective career changers included, are paralyzed by inertia
because of negative circumstances like the bad economy or a chaotic
workplace.

"You have to be able to take action in your life without being bumped around
like a victim," he says. "It helps to recognize that being a self-starter is
a set of behaviors that you can adopt."

What sort of behaviors? The main one is to get your ideas out of your head
and onto paper. By freeing your mind of everything that needs to be done for
your project, you can make sure you capture the necessary tasks, acknowledge
them, and start taking action to accomplish them.

Follow Project Stages

Mr. Allen's project model involves five key stages: defining the purpose of
the project, determining what success will look like, brainstorming,
organizing, and allocating resources/taking action. Creating a rough outline
that breaks the project down into smaller component parts, and marshaling a
team of friends or advisers to pow wow about the best way to accomplish it,
also can help.

It's easier to finish what you start if you delegate required tasks so that
each member of your team is personally accountable for something. In my own
experience, having frequent status meetings to flag problems and incorporate
new developments also is important.

If you're working on your own, you can place a checklist and timeline in
your personal calendar. Just be wary of implementing too many fancy
organizational systems in exchange for doing real work on your project.

If you're having trouble thinking of a project to get you moving in the
right direction, Mr. Allen encourages you to start with the basics.

"Your first project could be something as simple as making a
career-opportunities folder, in which you put interesting articles you cut
out of magazines or read online," he says. "It could be setting up a time
each week to reflect on the bigger picture of your life. It's not a bad
thing to hold off on the biggest decisions until your thinking has matured."
