SENIOR MANAGER, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The Seeing Eye, Inc.

Reporting to the CFO/Director of Administration & Finance, the Senior Manager, Information Technology (SMIT) will provide technology vision and leadership in the development and implementation of enterprise information technology (IT) and telecommunications to support all departments working to execute the mission and achieve the goals of The Seeing Eye.  The SMIT will work to achieve effective and cost beneficial enterprise-wide IT operations and is responsible for managing the budget for the IT Department.

For over 80 years, The Seeing Eye has enhanced the independence, dignity and self-confidence of people who are blind through the use of Seeing Eye ® dogs—carefully breeding and training dogs, matching dogs and their blind owners, and training them to work together as a mutually supportive team.  From its inviting 65-acre campus outside Morristown, N.J., and a nearby state-of-the-art breeding station, The Seeing Eye's 180-member staff matches and trains about 275 teams of graduates and dog guides each year.
 
The primary duties for the position include:

Providing strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the information and technology systems.


Responsible for technology vision and assess new technologies to determine potential value for the organization.

Facilitate communications between staff, management, vendors, and other technology resources.

Responsible for the computer operations and management of all IT infrastructure, including servers, local area networks, wide-area networks, voice communication, desktop computing and enterprise and departmental software. 

Oversee design, development and implementation of internal proprietary software.

Develop, document and implement best practices with respect to IT operations, support and system development.

Oversee, evaluate and maintain system integrity, security, disaster recovery and back up procedures.

Supervise the IT Staff.

 Requirements:

 

Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field or equivalent experience.  A Master's degree Computer Science or Business Administration is highly desirable. 

 Minimum of 10 years of experience with increasing responsibilities for management and support information technology, direct management of IT operations is preferred.


Significant experience in a not for profit setting is desirable, specifically in technology and information systems planning to support operations and fund raising goals.

Experience should also include exposure to both shared and outsourced solutions, as well as support of in-house information and communication systems in a multi-site environment. 

Specific experience with project management, financial management, software development and fund raising information systems is a plus.

The ideal candidate will also have:

Familiarity with desktop, notebook, handheld, and server computer hardware; local and wide area network design, implementation, and operation; operating systems such as Windows, and Linux; screen readers, other access technology, and accessibility issues for blind users; Raiser's Edge software is a plus.

Experience in software development and current Software Development Lifecycle methodologies including: web application architecture, web page user interface development, including use of wireframes, business needs and requirement analysis

Experience with enterprise databases and information systems

Knowledge of various office productivity software programs such as word processing, databases, spreadsheet programs, and communications software.

General knowledge of business processes; ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal

Effective conceptual, analytical, communication and presentation skills/abilities.

Ability to think ahead and plan over a long-range time frame

Self-motivator, exercises good judgment, cooperative, flexible, creative. 

Proven skills in:  Negotiating with vendors, contractors, and others; develop RFPs and evaluate vendor responses; budget preparation and monitoring; planning, organizing and change management; communication, management and leadership.

Demonstrated ability to:  Relate to all levels of the user community; be a team player that motivates and educates other team members; facilitate group meetings; proactively plan, implement and support systems in a complex environment; set and manage priorities; comprehend complex, technical subjects; translate technical language to lay audiences; link and apply complex technologies to business strategies
